After having creative differences with Infinity Ward’s audio director, Sarah Schachner, composer of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, Anthem, and many prior Call of Duty games, has decided not to work on the soundtrack for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Despite widespread curiosity about the lack of launch music for the new Call of Duty game, only some people were prepared for such significant issues to arise.
Throughout the campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, players experienced several memorable missions, each of which included equally amazing music that underscored critical moments in the story. As the disagreement between Schachner and the audio director, Stephen Miller, to a climax, it seems like those who want to hear these recordings without gunshots booming over them will have to wait a little longer.
Sarah Schachner, who has worked on several blockbuster video games and films, has said that the final version of the Modern Warfare 2 soundtrack is “not [her] aesthetic objective about mixing and mastering.” The voice actors for Modern Warfare 2 seem pleased with the final result.
Still, Schachner has reportedly had several disagreements with Miller over the last several months, and she is no longer overseeing the launch of the game’s soundtrack. Additionally, fans of Schachner’s work may be disappointed to learn that she will not be contributing any additional music to the game’s upcoming DLC, such as Warzone 2.0.
Even as Modern Warfare 2 continues to break sales records and become one of the fastest-selling AAA games of all time, its many flaws are becoming more apparent. It’s clear that Infinity Ward has a long way to go before they can release the game without the recurring problems of bugs and crashes, and Schachner’s remarks imply that the release of the game’s soundtrack may be in a similar state of uncertainty at the moment.
Despite the issues, new Call of Duty enthusiasts seem to be having fun, and nine new game types for Modern Warfare 2 might be in the works for future upgrades. It’s still being determined if Schachner’s work will be included in any of them, but it will almost certainly be substantially revised even if it is.
The Hulu-inspired user interface in Modern Warfare 2 is mainly designed for touchscreen mobile devices and could be more helpful for those who prefer to use a controller or keyboard and mouse. Because of how the UI is now implemented, even simple actions like switching camo could be more convenient and accurate.
